Spectrum Stone were nominated to produce a one-off bespoke hand-carved dragon using an English limestone. This enabled the client to appreciate its three dimensional form. The carving process then began from the stone block.

NEW BUILD PROJECT ELABORATE CARVING AND MASONRY

Spectrum Stone were awarded the prestigious contract at Holborn Viaduct to undertake the production of two 6.5 tonne Atlantis Gods forming balcony supports on the buildings facade. Drawings and the production of the clay scale maquette were undertaken prior to production of the portland stone figures. Each carving required three months labour to complete from block form.

Once the stone blocks were received the first stage was to profile the bottom-bed and abacus of the stone on a bridge saw to remove excess material and speed up production.

Once achieved, the remaining work was completed using traditional techniques and modern air chisels and angle grinders.
